Hematite Lake - Silverton Hiking

Hematite Lake is a breathtaking alpine destination, but reaching it requires a steep and strenuous climb. The hike is about 5 miles roundtrip with an elevation gain of 2,300 feet, starting at 9,600 feet and topping out at 11,900 feet. The effort is well worth it, as this turquoise gem, tucked beneath a rugged ridgeline, along with vibrant wildflowers and expansive mountain views, make this a truly rewarding hike.

Directions:

Parking is available at a pullout along CR-2. While there is no official trailhead sign, the trail is easy to spot on the north side of the road. It begins as a wide two-track path across a grassy slope before narrowing into a singletrack trail. As you start up the trail, you'll notice an old car with a tree growing right through it.
