Hayden Mountain South
I began my hike at the Richmond Pass trailhead, located along Highway 550 at the south end of the Ironton Park area near Ouray, Colorado. Keep an eye out for the unmarked turnoff on the right near mile marker 84.6, as it can be easy to miss. It is just past the 45-mph speed limit sign.
The trail begins with switchbacks winding through aspen groves, leading you further into a spruce-pine forest dotted with charming meadows. Once above treeline, you can enjoy the breathtaking views across the valley, where the vibrant hues of the Red Mountains and the majestic Brown Mountain ridge, crowned by Abrams Mountain to the north, create a stunning panorama.
Upon reaching the pass, the trail offers a class 2 walk up to the summit, providing an opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty of the surrounding landscapes.
