Whitecross Mountain

Hiking up Whitecross Mountain is a truly unforgettable experience that showcases some of the most beautiful scenery in southwestern Colorado. With cascading streams, vibrant wildflowers, and sweeping ridgeline views, this high-altitude adventure is a must-see for any outdoor enthusiast.

The hike starts at the Grizzly Gulch trailhead, located off County Road 30 near Lake City. From there, you'll follow the well-marked trail through a dense forest, before crossing several cascading streams and entering a beautiful alpine meadow. The trail gradually climbs up to the ridgeline, where you'll have incredible views of the surrounding peaks and valleys.

The climb up Whitecross Mountain is challenging, with steep switchbacks and exposure to high altitude. However, the effort is well worth it, as you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of Grizzly Lake and Handies Peak. The final ascent involves some scrambling, but it's manageable for experienced hikers and climbers.
